Since the October War in 1973, Washington has provided Israel with a level of support dwarfing that given to any other state. It has been the largest annual recipient of direct economic and military assistance since 1976, and is the largest recipient in total since World War Two, to the tune of well over $140 billion (in 2004 dollars). Israel receives about $3 billion in direct assistance each year, roughly one-fifth of the foreign aid budget, and worth about $500 a year for every Israeli. This largesse is especially striking since Israel is now a wealthy industrial state with a per capita income roughly equal to that of South Korea or Spain.

Washington also provides Israel with consistent diplomatic support. Since 1982, the US has vetoed 32 Security Council resolutions critical of Israel, more than the total number of vetoes cast by all the other Security Council members. It blocks the efforts of Arab states to put Israel’s nuclear arsenal on the IAEA’s agenda. The US comes to the rescue in wartime and takes Israel’s side when negotiating peace. ” (http://www.lrb.co.uk/v28/n06/mear01_.html, november 2007).

The authors John Mearseheimer and Stephen Walt of the book “the Israel lobby”, state that there is a lobby for the support of israël and that the “core of the Lobby” is American Jews who make a significant effort in their daily lives to bend U.S. foreign policy so that it advances Israel’s interests. According to the authors, they have much influence on the campaigns to, for example by giving less campaign money to the candidates against the lobby (because of the jewish voteres and the influential politicians who take part in the Lobby). You should especially see this movie (start it from 2:00). It shows how former congresmember Earl Hilliard, who was against the lobby, is being related to Bin-Laden and terrorism because of his opposing.

No single person, let alone a state, wants to burn hands on the situation in darfur.  The media is not interested in the subject, because they can only think of getting as much viewers as possible. Therefore people do not care, because they do not know.

Darfur does not need money. They need a helping hand.
